Catherine the Great's Summer Palace

This was one of Catherine the Great’s favourite Palaces (located in St. Petersburg). The gardens continue forever and one can find many Italian renaissance influenced sculptures around the grounds. This initially struck me as odd because Russia has its own very definitive style, but later on a tour I discovered that many artists from Russia were sent down to Italy to study the newest thing in art, and then returned to Russia and started creating heavily influenced Italian styled sculptures.
