Red-headed Weaver's Nest

Posted by Lydia (Ottawa, Canada) on 5 April 2007 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

This intricate nest belongs to the Red-headed weaver. It was hanging from the largest baobab tree, which hosted hundreds if not thousands of these nests. The entrance is designed so that larger cuckoo-type birds are unable to fly in the nest and lay their eggs for the weavers to bring up.
